SUMMARY:BOB BROOKMEYER/ZOOT SIMS' 1958 release STRETCHING OUT performed Live @ JRAC
DESCRIPTION:Jazz Record Art Collective presents the Rarick/Torrey Octet performing BOB BROOKMEYER/ZOOT SIMS 1958 release STRETCHING OUT live Wed June 14\n\n\nThe night will also feature live painting from TBA \n \n“…this 1958 session co-led by Zoot Sims and Bob Brookmeyer can be a bit tricky to find. Brookmeyer contributed most of the charts\, including the easygoing blues which serves as the title track\, as well as updated treatments of Jelly Roll Morton’s “King Porter Stomp” and “Ain’t Misbehavin’.” Al Cohn is responsible for a swinging chart of “Pennies from Heaven” during which he switches to baritone sax\, while Bill Potts wrote and arranged “Bee Kay.” …. Aside from a few innocuous reed squeaks\, the music is essentially flawless and has stood the test of time very well “ \n~Ken Dryden \n \nJon Rarick – Trumpet \nJosh Torrey – Trombone \nNatalie Scharf – Tenor \nTed Hogarth – Bari/Tenor \nGeordie Kelly – Guitar \nJeremy Kahn – Piano \nJoe Policastro – Bass \nKeith Brooks – Drums \n \n7:30 Doors \n8pm Show \nFree Parking \n$15 Suggested Donation

SUMMARY:Mountlake Terrace High School Jazz Ensemble Live @ Fulton Street Collective
DESCRIPTION:Fulton Street Collective presents a performance with Mountlake Terrace High School’s Jazz Ensemble with director Darin Faul.\n\n\nThe performance will feature Chicago jazz professors Chad McCullough\, Geof Bradfield and Scott Burns. \n \nThe Mountlake Terrace High School Jazz Ensemble is recognized throughout the Pacific Northwest as a top performing high school jazz band. They are a nine time Finalist in the Essentially Ellington Competition held in New York City\, and are honored regularly at the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival in Moscow\, Idaho. Students have taken top honors at regional and national competitions over the years\, and have been featured in All-State and All-Northwest music groups\, as well as National Ensembles like the Grammy Bands. Directing the band is Mr. Darin Faul\, who has been teaching and directing these fabulous bands for the past 25 years. \nThe Mountlake Terrace High School music program is being severely impacted next school year by proposed district administration budget cuts. In an effort to balance the budget\, administration is cutting approximately 25% of the district’s music program. Two of the five school’s band classes\, including Jazz 2\, and the school’s only choir class will not exist next year if this budget is approved.
