SUMMARY:Kurt Rosenwinkel's THE NEXT STEP and THE REMEDY Performed Live @ JRAC
DESCRIPTION:Jazz Record Art Collective presents Roy McGrath Quartet performing two Kurt Rosenwinkel albums\, THE NEXT STEP and THE REMEDY Thur. Oct. 1st\n\n\nJazz Record Art Collective presents Roy McGrath Quartet performing two Kurt Rosenwinkel albums THE NEXT STEP and THE REMEDY (Live at the Village Vanguard) Thursday\, October 1st at Fulton Street Collective. \nThe night will also feature live painting from visual artist TBA. \nTHE NEXT STEP:“Guitarist Kurt Rosenwinkel takes The Next Step in his creative evolution on eight songs that exude several degrees of great jazz…Rosenwinkel is one of many young jazz musicians forging ahead into the new millennium with bold musical steps\, and the compositions\, all of which he wrote\, represent the culmination of many life phases for him…This is an excellent listening experience that builds from start to finish.”~Paula Edelstein \nTHE REMEDY (Live at the Village Vanguard):“For electric guitarist Kurt Rosenwinkel’s seventh offering\, he has taken the challenge of recording live at the hallowed Village Vanguard in NYC\, written new music for the occasion\, put together a dynamic backup band\, and offers lengthy composed music foundations followed by extensive solo discourses. As usual\, Rosenwinkel’s style is an interwoven\, complex fabric of melodies and harmonies that seem brighter and luminous\, yet have an inward and insular confidence that belies a more mysterious nature…Fans of Rosenwinkel are unfazed to begin with\, as his recordings are spaced by several years. His style being similarly unhurried in general\, but always poignant and substantive\, is in full display on this jam-packed double-disc of music that is so personally his own.”~Michael G. SUMMARY:Tom Waits' 1976 release SMALL CHANGE Performed Live at FSC
DESCRIPTION:Jazz Record Art Collective presents Androgynous Mustache performing Tom Waits’ 1976 release SMALL CHANGE Wed. Sept. 30th @ FSC\n\n\nThe night will also feature live painting from visual artist John Ross Wilson. \n  \n“Small Change is the work Tom has been building up to for his three year career up to this point. This is the breakthrough of Tom’s gruffer vocal delivery\, and whether he is crooning over a luscious string orchestra or spouting off one-liners over a bouncy upright bass\, he’s definitely found the voice he’s been looking for. There’s a bit of every previous Tom Waits album present here\, meaning his impressive work ethic has paid off in helping him achieve the sound he’s desired. Of course\, though\, this was created in the midst of the busiest portion of his life\, so not only was he touring extensively and constantly having late nights\, his drinking habit was worsening by the day. “Tom Traubert’s Blues” captures the sorrow feelings of drinking on a lonely night\, while a song like “The Piano Has Been Drinking” directly deals with Tom’s alcoholism\, yet the lyrics ironically see him neglecting to confront his problems. This is one of the most important albums in the development of Tom’s artistry\, on a lyrical and musical level\, and again\, while I don’t think every song hits the way they do on his debut\, it’s clear that this is what Tom Waits’ name was meant to be…for now…\nThis album was a “small change” for the time being\, but in the grand scheme of things\, it was a monumental one” \n~Reddit.com \n\nDan Ingentron – Piano/Vocals\nBethany Thomas – Vocals\nJimmy Farace – Sax\nOlya Prohorova – Violin\nDominic Johnson – Viola\nAsher Sizemore – Cello\nGreg Nergaard – Bass\nAndrews Christianson – Drums \n\n7pm Doors \n7:30pm Show \n$15 Suggested Donation \nFREE PARKING \n\n\n  \n

SUMMARY:Nicholas Krolak - PAST LIVES [Album Release Concert]
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate the release of my latest album … PAST LIVES … a once in a lifetime sonic experience awaits :)\n\n\n“Somewhere between Charles Mingus and Johnny Greenwood there is a sound that bassist/composer Nicholas Krolak seeks.” \n“A young veteran of the Philadelphia music scene. He has spent the last decade working as a side-man\, experiencing new styles\, and studying with the masters. Now\, he has taken all he has learned and is applying it to his own artistic adventures.” \n“Tracing the lineage of bebop into the contemporary\, while constantly balancing the pulse of the city and the mysticism of nature: he has been described as…” \n“a different kind of songwriter—perhaps a different kind of jazz musician altogether. He’s like the bass playing\, modern embodiment of Walt Whitman. And\, just as Whitman used his prose poems\, Krolak uses his music to celebrate and also reconcile the competing and contradictory nature of the two worlds he straddles: the natural and the urban.” \nMatt Silver – WRTI \n==================================================================== \nThis tour exists inside the world of PAST LIVES. \nIt takes shape in rooms where listening changes … where sound lingers\, attention sharpens\, and the space between notes matters. These are not ordinary nights. They unfold gradually\, shaped by the room\, the people in it\, and whatever arrives in the moment. \nNothing is rushed … \nNothing is repeated … \nThe music is allowed to breathe\, to stretch\, to move time in unfamiliar ways. What happens is shared\, fleeting\, and difficult to describe afterward … something you feel more than remember. \nIf this resonates\, you’re invited … to the WOLRD PREMIERE of PAST LIVES ! \nThere’s just one catch … tickets are limited … don’t wait … see you there ! \n  \nNicholas Krolak – bass\nMichael Hudson-Cassanova – sax\nMeghan Stagl – voice/piano\nGustava Cortinas – drums \nPhoto by Harvey Tillis \n7pm Doors\n7:30pm Show\nIn-Person Only\n$20 Suggest Donation\nFREE PARKING \n\n\n  \n

What would that sound like? This sparked a creative journey that merged two great American traditions—university fight songs and jazz. From brainstorming to composing\, Garrett and Sam spent months reimagining the melodies that embody school pride\, while incorporating the improvisational spirit of jazz. Collaborating with their **Visions Jazz Ensemble**\, they crafted 12 original arrangements\, selecting the finest fight songs and giving them fresh\, innovative interpretations that still held the melodies at their core—melodies that alumni and fans cherish for life.~visionsjazzensemble.com \nMax Brown is a trombonist\, composer\, and arranger\, who plays music in all styles but mainly focuses on jazz.
