SUMMARY:SOM BRASIL Celebrating Brazilian Music & Breno Sauer Live at FSC
DESCRIPTION:Fulton Street Collective presents SOM BRASIL Celebrating the Music of Brazil and Breno Sauer on Monday\, December 16th at 8pm\n\n\nThe evening will feature live painting from visual artist TBA. \n \nBreno and Neusa Sauer moved from Brasil to Mexico in the 60s and then to Chicago in the 80s and formed Som Brasil in 1985. They began working at the Jazz Bulls\, the Green Mill and many other clubs hiring such great local musicians like Ron Dewar\, Kelly Sill\, Akio Sasajima\, Paulinho Garcia\, Phil Gratteau\, Dede Sempaio\, Geraldo de Oliveira\, Peter O’Neil\, Luiz Ewerling\, etc. Breno’s unique playing and arranging style alongside Neusa’s exemplary vocal talents plus the addition of Chicago’s great jazz talent gave the band a special sound. \nWe are creating this new band to not only pay homage to Breno’s unique style but to add to it. We are so happy and honored to work with one of the founding members of the original band – the dynamic vocalist Neusa Sauer – as well as two former full time members – Luiz Ewerling and Peter O’Neil (who now lives in Rio de Janeiro). \nSteve Million – keysNeusa Sauer – vocalsLuciano Antonio – guitar and vocalsPeter O’Neil – woodwinds \nMarcel Bonfim – bassLuiz Ewerling – drums \n \n7:30pm Doors8pm ShowIn-Person Only$15 Suggest DonationFREE PARKING

SUMMARY:Benny Carter's 1961 release FURTHER DEFINITIONS Performed Live at JRAC
DESCRIPTION:Jazz Record Art Collective presents Chris Lega Group performing Benny Carter’s 1961 release FURTHER DEFINITIONS on Wednesday\, November 14th\n\n\nThe evening will feature live painting from visual artist TBA. \nIn November 1961\, jazz legend Benny Carter assembled a stellar group featuring top New York saxophonists Coleman Hawkins\, Phil Woods\, Charlie Rouse\, and himself (as performer and \narranger)\, and a rhythm section that included jazz legends Joe Jones on drums and Jimmy Garrison on bass. Together\, they created the iconic album “Further Definitions\,” which was \ncelebrated at the time for Benny’s writing\, ensemble work\, and the solos of Hawkins\, Rouse\, Woods\, and Carter. The instrumentation was somewhat unusual for the day—just a sax section with rhythm— but it worked and produced a great album. \n \nLuckily\, that music was preserved and will be performed along with other recent arrangements written for the same instrumentation\, by Chicago saxophonists—Scott Burns\, Dan Nicholson\, Kevin Kizer\, and Chris Lega: \n \nChris Lega – Tenor \nScott Burns – Tenor \nDan Nicholson – Alto \nKevin Kizer – Tenor \nJoey Skoch – Piano \nDennis Carroll – Bass \nGeorge Fludas – Drums \n \n7:30 Doors \n8pm Show \nIn-Person Only \n$15 Suggest Donation \nFREE PARKING

SUMMARY:A BENNY GOLSON CELEBRATION with ANDY BAKER's CHI-TET Live at FSC
DESCRIPTION:Fulton Street Collective presents A BENNY GOLSON CELEBRATION with ANDY BAKER’s CHI-TET on Wednesday\, October 16th at 8pm\n\n\nThe evening will feature live painting from visual artist TBA. \n“Benny Golson\, a master saxophonist revered as much for the durable standards he contributed to the jazz repertoire as for his eloquent tenor sound\, died on Saturday at his home in Manhattan. He was 95. His longtime manager and agent\, Jason Franklin\, said he died after a short illness. Golson played an integral role in the transition from bebop to hard bop through his short but vital tenure with Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers\, and with his own influential Jazztet\, co-led by trumpeter Art Farmer. But his place in the jazz pantheon would be secure even if he had never played a note. Few jazz musicians can claim as many bona fide standards to their credit: bedrock compositions like “Whisper Not\,” “Stablemates\,” “I Remember Clifford\,” “Along Came Betty\,” “Killer Joe\,” and “Blues March.” “Every stroke of his pen became another classic\,” trumpeter Eddie Henderson\, a member of one of his bands\, tells WRTI. “His signature sound was undeniable: he could play one note and you knew it was Benny Golson. That’s the mark of a true artist.” \n~bennygolson.com \n \nAndy Baker – TromboneDerek Gardner – TrumpetGeof Bradfield – Tenor SaxJeremy Kahn – PianoLarry Kohut – BassCliff Wallace – Drums \n7:30 Doors8pm Show (2 Sets)$15 Suggest DonationFREE PARKING \n \nPhoto by Frans Schellekens

Taylor is presenting public readings of the work in selected cities during this very incendiary Presidential campaign season. The play will premiere at Denver Colorado’s Curious Theater in May 2025. \n“EXHIBIT is Art meeting Purpose because now is not the time to be silent. The work is about getting people to use their voices- To get out and Vote!” -Regina Taylor \nREGISTER TO VOTE \n \nRegina Taylor is an award-winning actress\, (Golden Globe\, multiple NAACP Image Awards\, Emmy nomination.) \nHer acting credits include notable roles in “I’ll Fly Away\,” “The Unit\,” and “CSI: Vegas\,” as well as in films such as “Lean on Me” with Morgan Freeman\, “The Negotiator” with Samuel L. SUMMARY:JOE GROSS QUARTET and NATURAL SATELLITE Live at Fulton Street Collective
DESCRIPTION:Fulton Street Collective presents a performance with JOE GROSS QUARTET and NATURAL SATELLITE on Monday\, October 7th..7:30pm Early Start time\n\n\nThe evening will feature live painting from visual artist TBA. \n \nJoe Gross started playing professionally at age 15\, soon becoming one of the most in demand trumpet players in the Chicago area. Over the years\, he has worked with many excellent musicians\, including Peter Nero\, Michel LeGrande\, Nelson Riddle\, Lou Marini\, Jon Faddis\, Phil Wilson\, Clark Terry\, Carl Fontana\, James Moody\, Jeff Jarvis\, Chris Vadala\, Manny Albam\, and Bob Curnow.~ jgjazzman.com \n“First of all the main instruments here are cello and saxophone which is a very welcome deviation from the acoustic guitar and piano combo. The music leans towards jazz that is combined with accessible vocal melodies which give it a slightly more indie pop feel. It reminds me of a group you might hear on a Saturday night at a place like the Green Mill in Chicago. The songs reflect the moon\, some noir and unequivocally sound better when the sun has gone down.” \n~ Dan Weston\, ‘Divide and Conquer’ \n \n7:30pm NATURAL SATELLITE \nKarli Reisdorf – Cello/Vox \nJason Reisdorf – Sax \n \n8:30pm JOE GROSS QUARTET \nJoe Gross – TrumpetMike Allemana – GuitarEthan Philion – BassCami Mennitte – Drums \n \n7pm Doors7:30 pm ShowIn-Person Only$15 Suggest DonationFREE PARKING
