SUMMARY:Roots Of Creativity - Art Exhibition by Lois Stone at Fulton Street Collect
DESCRIPTION:Fulton Street Collective presents Roots Of Creativity – Art Exhibition by Lois Stone on Friday\, July 19th.\n\n\nRoots of Creativity\, Purpose\, Process\, Execution \n \n\nMany believe that we are born with creativity\, an innate quality. But is it housed in the brain\, or does it originate from the heart? Where does creativity form\, and what is its purpose? In the iconic movie\, The Matrix Reloaded\, Neo understands that he must find the key maker to unlock various areas of the Matrix and save it. Upon meeting\, Neo asks\, “So you are the key maker?” The key maker replies\, “Yes\, it is my purpose.”The drive to create and express oneself—whether through visual art\, the written word\, music\, or dance—is the essence of an artist’s life.Through my abstract paintings and the voices of fellow artists\, “Purpose\, Process\, Execution” aims to inspire\, uplift\, challenge our perceptions\, and showcase the transformative power of art.@roelephantom\n\n\nRESERVATIONS RECOMMENDED: \nFulton Street Collective1821 W. SUMMARY:REMPIS-JOHNSON-HEINEMANN-CUNNINGHAM Live at FSC
DESCRIPTION:The evening will feature live painting from visual artist TBA \nRuss Johnson – trumpet\nDave Rempis – saxophones\nJakob Heinemann – bass\nJeremy Cunningham – drums \nThis working formation organized by journeyman saxophonist Dave Rempis (Ballister\, Kuzu\, Rempis Percussion Quartet) represents a cross-section of the thriving jazz and improvised music scene based out of Chicago\, whose tentacles reach out regionally to Milwaukee (Johnson) and Madison (Heinemann) as well. Rempis\, trumpeter Russ Johnson\, and drummer Jeremy Cunningham are all established leaders on their own\, bridging the spectrum between knowing how to truly swing\, and knowing how to take it just as far out. Bassist Jakob Heinemann is a young player originally from Madison who took the Chicago scene by storm since moving there several years ago. He’s now back in Madison leading the charge amongst a new generation of improvising musicians. The band started their journey with a Blustem Jazz concert in Madison in August 2021\, and they’ve continued with regular engagements in Chicago since that time\, refining their sound and chemistry into a thoughtful\, deliberate\, and unique quartet. \n7:30 Doors \n8pm Show (2 Sets) \n$15 Suggested Donation \nFREE PARKING

Members of Blind Glass have performed at the Kennedy Center\, Chicago Jazz Festival\, The Logan Center\, Cutler Majestic Theatre\, Chicago Symphony Hall\, and are active on the Chicago-scene regularly performing at\, Andy’s Jazz Club\, Dorian’s\, Jazz Showcase\, the Hungry Brain\, Constellation\, Elastic Arts\, The Clipper\, and Cafe Mustache.Where Were We \nErez Dessel (USA 1998) is an improvising pianist and composer. After graduating from the New England Conservatory in Boston in 2020\, Dessel moved to Savannah\, GA\, where he served as music director at the Savannah Music Festival Jazz Academy\, Savannah’s first and only free after-school youth jazz program. He also kept up an active performing career in the southeast\, including presenting an hour-long improvised work for piano\, pastel\, and paper at the Savannah Cultural Arts Center. He moved to Chicago in 2022\, and has worked continuously both as a performer and organizer\, recording in an array of contexts with many internationally renowned musicians (including Ken Vandermark\, Tim Daisy\, Dustin Laurenzi\, Maria Elena Silva\, and Seajun Kwon). His current group activity includes the bands Edition Redux\, Walking Cliche Sextet\, and the Thwartet\, Maria Elena Silva; duos with Scott Taylor and Tyler Wagner; and work as a solo performer. Dessel created and curates the Night School series at Agitator gallery\, which presents video artists and improvising musicians in a spontaneous performance context. Dessel has toured nationally and internationally\, including performances in Europe and Korea\, and his concerts and recordings have received critical acclaim. \nBeth McDonald is a classically trained tuba player gone awry. She performs mostly as an improviser\, using the tuba acoustically or in conjunction with electronic processing. Beth performs with Edition 55 & Edition Redux\, the Duck Brain Ragtime Band\, and other projects. She enjoys collaborating on cross-disciplinary performance projects\, and has collaborated in works by Becky Grajeda\, Nathanael Lee Jones\, Sasha de Koninick\, and Mark Booth. Previous projects include No Trust\, the Lindenbomber Fleet\, Boston Modern Brass. \nTyler Damon (b. 1987\, Cincinnati\, OH USA) is a Midwestern American artist whose syncretic approach aims to reveal mercurial\, impressionistic narratives via drums/percussion & free improvisation. In addition to solo work\, Tyler has earned recognition for extended duo exhibitions with saxophonist Dave Rempis and guitarist Tashi Dorji. The three formed the trio Kuzu in 2017\, leading All About Jazz to insist that their work “is for audacious listeners and it isn’t like anything else.” Other contemporary outfits include a Chicago triad featuring Gerrit Hatcher & Joshua Abrams\, a percussion duo with Jacob Fawcett\, as well as two new trios\, one comprised of Andrew Scott Young & Ishmael Ali\, the other featuring Erez Dessel & Beth McDonald. Tyler is also often found drumming with Chicago-via-Houston guitarist Eli Winter in trio alongside Sam Wagster on pedal steel\, as well as the Mars Williams-led quartet\, Exit Plan\, with Brian Sandstrom & Steve Marquette\, and has been recognized for his past work with the chameleonic Circuit Des Yeux. Tyler has toured extensively in North America\, Europe\, Vietnam\, & Colombia and is also regularly engaged with other artists\, musicians and heads of various sorts across the American Midwest. His recorded output has been offered by myriad labels including Family Vineyard\, Astral Spirits\, Aerophonic\, Trost\, Magnetic South\, Feeding Tube\, Drag City\, Matador\, Auris Apothecary\, Sophomore Lounge\, Amalgam\, Medium Sound\, Long Gone Sound System\, Let’s Pretend\, Park 70 & his own Yoke (currently on a temporary hiatus)

SUMMARY:PUCCINI MY LOVE\, Live at Fulton Street Collective
DESCRIPTION:Fulton Street Collective in collaboration w/Italian Cultural Institute of Chicago presents a live performance of Puccini My Love\, May 30th\n\n\nWhat happens when improvisation meets 19th century opera? When jazz meets Puccini? Something incredible and unique happens\, giving birth to the project Puccini\, My Love by the Italian duo Back-In-Time (B.I.T.). \nOn the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the death of Giacomo Puccini\, the Italian Cultural Institute of Chicago in collaboration with Fulton Street Collective\, presents the live concert Puccini\, My love performed by Danielle di Majo (sax) and Manuela Pasqui (piano). The evergreen melodies of one of the most important and influential opera composers of all time tie to the sensitivity of two modern improvisers. The concert is a tribute to Puccini\, an avant-garde composer who\, at the turn of two centuries\, represented the Italian Opera. \nFree with registration. Registration link upcoming. \n \nDanielle di Majo and Manuela Pasqui have been performing musical duos since 2019. From the beginning\, they had a special connection thanks to shared artistic objectives that inspired their “musical research”. In this formation\, they have already recorded two albums for Filibusta Record’s\, in 2021 and 2023. The duo’s first Back-in-Time (B.I.T.) album was based on a new interpretation of material from classical repertoires and original songs. Their intention was to build their own personal sound and lyricism\, as well as develop a shared musical language. Their second album is an exclusive collection of original tunes. It provides fertile ground for the two instrumentalists to deepen their melodic expression and the art of dialectic interaction between two musical instruments. It is the result of continuous and profound research\, both in composition and improvisation. \n \n7:30 Doors \n8pm Show \n$15 Suggested Donation to support FSC \nFREE PARKING
