DESCRIPTION:MICHAEL NEARPASS LARGE ENSEMBLE performs Duke Ellington’s jazz interpretations of The Nutcracker by Tchaikovsky THE NUTCRACKER SUITE @ JRAC\n\n\nAll tunes arranged by Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn. \nThe evening will feature live painting from visual artist TBA. \n \n“In 1960\, Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn decided to take on Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker Suite\, released on Columbia records. Although there were risks of transforming the works of one the most prolific composers into a jazz setting\, Duke and Billy attacked the Russian Composer’s music and treated it as if it were their own. In order to truly fit the change of the music\, Duke and Billy decided to retitle the songs. This record serves as a tribute to the Russian composer Tchaikovsky\, as well as the artistry of both Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn.”~Lenard Simpson \n \nMICHAEL NEARPASS LARGE ENSEMBLEReeds: Brent Griffin\, Artie Black\, Hunter Diamond\, Alex Beltran\, Alex Blomarz \nTrumpets: John Moore\, Quentin Coaxum\, Drew Hansen\, Chris Davis \nTrombones: Matt Davis\, Josh Torrey\, Michael Nearpass \nPiano: Lara Driscoll \nBass: Ashley Summers \nDrums: Clif Wallace \n \n7:30 Doors8pm Show \n$15 Suggest DonationFREE PARKING

SUMMARY:A VERY BONZO CHRISTMAS Live at Fulton Street Collective
DESCRIPTION:FSC presents Bonzo Squad\, performing their recent 2023 holiday release A VERY BONZO CHRISTMAS with a special encore set of…It’s a surprise\n\n\nThe evening will feature live painting from visual artist Julie Vogt. \n \nALBUM BACKGROUND: \nAn annual tradition that started 7 years ago as a gift to the band\, bassist Andrew Vogt arranged a batch of Christmas songs for the group to play\, fitted snugly on top of existing Bonzo Squad music. This February\, they took that music into Rax Trax Studios and recorded it for future holidays\, when they are all too fat and lazy to fit into their elf costumes. The result was “A Very Bonzo Christmas\,” an 8-track album chock-full of holiday smaesh. The album also guest features fantastic Chicagoan musicians including Zach Brock\, Atlys String Quartet\, Matt Gold\, Constantine Alexander and Anders Nordstrom. \n \nThe show will conclude with another annual tradition of the band performing a live scoring to the classic short film “TBA.” Much like the CSO performing Star Wars or Harry Potter film music\, Vogt was able to use computer wizardry to separate the audio from the film and – to make things harder – also transcribed the entire score. \n \nJoin us for a festive celebration sure to be full of great music\, friends\, family and holiday Malort. \n \n“In ‘A Very Bonzo Christmas\,’ Bonzo Squad has crafted more than just an album; they’ve created a holiday experience. It’s a journey through the snowy landscapes of jazz\, a celebration of the season’s magic\, and a reminder that good music has the power to transcend time and tradition. As you immerse yourself in the delightful sounds of Bonzo Squad’s festive arrangements\, you’ll find yourself embracing the holiday spirit with newfound enthusiasm. This album is a jazz-infused Christmas gem that deserves a permanent spot in your holiday music collection. Get ready to swing into the season with “A Very Bonzo Christmas” – it’s a musical gift that keeps on giving.” \n— David Delaney\, Chicago Writers Syndicate \n \nPERFORMANCES BY: \nCorbin Andrick-saxes \nAndrew Lawrence-keyboard \nAndrew Vogt-bass \nZack Marks-drums \n+ Special Guests \n \n7:30 Doors \n8pm Show \n$15 Suggested Donation \nFREE PARKING

SUMMARY:Tim Hagans' AUDIBLE ARCHITECTURE performed live at JRAC
DESCRIPTION:Jazz Record Art Collective presents TIM HAGANS QUINTET performing his 1995 release AUDIBLE ARCHITECTURE Thursday\, November 16th at FSC\n\n\nThe night will also feature live painting from visual artist TBA. \n“Although Tim Hagans is rightly thought of as a veteran hard bop player\, his adventurous spirit has led to him playing pretty freely on this CD. The programming is quite admirable\, with three pianoless trios followed by four quartet numbers alternating with separate trumpet-bass and trumpet-drums duets before a brief unaccompanied trumpet solo closes the set…Hagans almost sounds like Don Cherry with technique…there is not a throwaway track among the ten\, with Tim Hagans in prime physical and creative form. Highly recommended.” \n~Scott Yanow \n \nTim Hagens – Trumpet/Compositions \nChad McCullough – Trumpet \nRyan Shultz – Bass Trumpet \nJon Irabagon – Sax \nDan Thatcher – Bass \nTom Hipskin – Drums \n \n7:30 Doors \n8pm Show \nFree Parking \n$15 Suggested Donation
