SUMMARY:TRIO PROFONDO's album release MOSAIC at FSC
DESCRIPTION:Fulton Street Collective presents TRIO PROFONDO’s album release performance MOSAIC on Thursday\, March 23rd at 8pm.\n\n\nThe evening will feature live painting from visual artist TBA\n \n \n“Initially bonding over their shared Italian American heritage\, Jimmy Farace (baritone saxophone)\, Stephen Parisi (bass)\, and Paul Barrilles (drums) formed Trio Profondo. The Chicago based ensemble presents Black American Music through an uncommon and exciting instrumentation – baritone saxophone trio. Trio Profondo’s aesthetic concept revolves around the theme of depth\, as exemplified by the group’s exploration of the rich contrapuntal possibilities between baritone and bass voices. After two years of experience as a working and touring ensemble\, Trio Profondo headed to the studio to record their debut album\, Mosaic. Mosaicis a collection of original compositions from each of the members and a standard from the pen of Thelonious Monk. Ranging from themes of nostalgia\, love\, and exasperation\, all nine songs reflect upon important moments in each of the trio members’ lives. Much like the nature of Trio Profondo itself\, each track of Mosaic\, though independent in nature\, merges to create something greater than the sum of its parts.” \n \n \nTRI0 PROFONDO\n \nJimmy Farace – Saxophone\n \nStephen Parisi – Bass\n \nPaul Barrilles – Drums \n \n \n7:30 Doors\n \n8pm Show IN-PERSON ONLY\n \n$15 Suggested Donation\n \nFREE PARKING

SUMMARY:Twin Talk and Nick Mazzarella's Meridian Trio Live at FSC
DESCRIPTION:Fulton Street Collective presents a double-bill performance with TWIN TALK and Nick Mazzarella’s MERIDIAN TRIO on Tuesday\, February 14th at\n\n\nThe evening will feature live painting from visual artist Tamara Wasserman. \nTWIN TALK \nFor over a decade\, Chicago’s Twin Talk has steadily drifted from the conventions of the saxophone trio. While reedist Dustin Laurenzi\, bassist-singer Katie Ernst\, and drummer Andrew Green are deeply rooted in jazz tradition\, they’ve spent their time on the band stage together making their music more elastic\, spontaneous\, and open\, embracing new inspirations without stifling the improvisational heart of their work. All three musicians are active members in the city’s bustling jazz community\, each playing in numerous working bands\, but they’ve found a true collective voice as Twin Talk. They’ve used live performances as opportunities to stretch—expanding on composed material and ditching set lists in favor of calling tunes on the fly—but on their upcoming album Weaver they’ve pushed themselves further than ever\, using the recording studio as a place for experimentation\, letting a new batch of compositions develop and take new shapes. As critic Howard Reich wrote recently in the Chicago Tribune\, “These musicians listen keenly to one another\, and with a sensitivity that only comes from familiarity and trust.” \ntwintalkmusic.com \nhttps://www.instagram.com/twintalkband/ \n\n \nMERIDIAN TRIO \nNick Mazzarella’s Meridian Trio—formed in 2014—traverses the “inside” and “outside” hemispheres of jazz using a repertoire of his original compositions that integrate elements of the blues and modalism with abstract compositional techniques and free improvisation\, often employing memorable melodic phrases\, swinging grooves\, and other cyclical rhythmic structures. The group’s 2017 debut recording Triangulum “keeps links with the jazz tradition and goes to unknown territories\, destroying all the remaining distinctions that some more distracted listeners (and players) still make between ‘mainstream’ and ‘avant-garde’.” (Clean Feed Records). \n“Mazzarella seeks to embody the history of the music while pushing it forward into new realms.” \n– All About Jazz \n \n8pm MERIDIAN TRIO \nNick Mazzarella – Sax \nMatt Ulery – Bass \nJeremy Cunningham – Drums \n \n9:15 TWIN TALK \nDustin Laurenzi – Sax \nKatie Ernst – Bass \nAndrew Greene – Drums \n \n7:30 Doors \n8pm Show \n$15 Suggested Donation \nFREE PARKING \nfree livestream = youtube.com/fultonstreetcollective

DESCRIPTION:SPENCER SCHILLERSTROM QUARTET at Prairie Moon in Evanston\n\n\nSPENCER SCHILLERSTROM QUARTET\nSpencer Schillerstrom – Sax \nElio Wijaya – Keyboard \nMarion Mallard – Bass \nAlejandro Salazar – Drums \nABOUT THE BAND\nMusic moves above us\, around us\, and through us as invisible art. Despite its intangible form\, music has the ability to transport us to distant memories\, create emotion out of thin air\, and inspire us to achieve greatness in our lives. Before we can call ourselves artists\, every musician must decide how they want to inspire their listeners. Spencer’s goal\, whether its through his improvisation\, part-playing\, or composition\, is to help people find joy in life. \nIn order to accomplish this\, Spencer’s passion is to learn from the masters of music. Best said by the legendary Charlie Parker\, “master your instrument\, master the music and then forget all that and just play.” Spencer works every day to further his knowledge of music and saxophone so he can connect with people and put a smile on their faces. His goal is to supply this service to you! \nABOUT PRAIRIE MOON\nLive music in Evanston.
