SUMMARY:Devon Sandridge Live at Hubbard Street Lofts
DESCRIPTION:Fulton Street Collective presents a performance with Devon Sandridge on Wednesday\, November 9th at Hubbard Street Lofts at 8pm.\n\n\n \nThe evening will feature live painting from visual artist Lewis Achenbach\n \n \n“He has taken his experience learned while in the military and applied it to embarking on a career in jazz. He takes initiative\, he’s resourceful and confident. It takes talent and strategy to make it in this business and he has both—he has a remarkable bass-baritone voice\, which shares similar touch\, phrasing\, and vibrato with that of Johnny Hartman\, the person that inspired him to initially embark upon his career. Sandridge uses vibrato like I rarely hear in jazz.”\n \n – Chicago Jazz Magazine \n \n \nDevon Sandridge – Vocals\n \nTom Vaitsas – Organ\n \nDerek Duleba – Guitar\n \nLuke Sagadin – Drums \n \n \n7:30 Doors\n \n8pm Show\n \nFREE PARKING

Hubbard Street\n \nChicago\, IL 60612\n \n773-852-2481\n \n \nThe full record will be released on October 28th\, 2022 on NYC Jazz Record Label Outside In Music.\n \n \n“Wistful Thinking doesn’t\, in other words\, split into rhythm players and soloists. Instead\, all four are integrally involved at sustaining flow whilst also weaving into the playing moments of individual expression.”\n \n– Ron Schepper\, Textura\n \n \nAbout Busy Body:\n \nOutside in Music is thrilled to announce the October 28\, 2022 release of Busy Body\, the sophomore album from steadfast New York-based composer and trombonist Sam Blakeslee and his synergetic ensemble Wistful Thinking. Following his 2021 debut The Long Middle\, Blakeslee’s intimate\, pastoral first statement conceptualized and released mid-pandemic\, Busy Body builds beyond the bandleader’s chamber-jazz setting and finds asylum in a realm between fusion and electronica. Soaring through compositions wrought by electronic manipulations and ambient sonic landscapes\, Busy Body takes on an entirely fresh framework for this exploratory band\, yet Blakeslee’s profound ability to resonate thoughts through sound remains eminent on this far-reaching statement.\n \n \nWant to know more? DESCRIPTION:The Jazz Record Art Collective is proud to present Joel Baer and the Blueshift Big Band performing Buddy Rich’s 1967 release BIG SWING FACE\n\n\n November 3rd at Hubbard St. Lofts. \nThe night will also feature an installation and live painting from visual artist Jess Brooks.\n \n“…Rich’s orchestra was in its early prime\, displaying a very impressive ensemble sound\, charts by Bill Holman\, Shorty Rogers\, Bob Florence\, Bill Potts and others\, and such soloists as altoist Ernie Watts (a newcomer)\, trumpeter Bobby Shew\, Jay Corre on tenor and the remarkable drummer/leader. Even with the presence of “Norwegian Wood” and “The Beat Goes On” (the latter features Rich’s teenage daughter Cathe on a vocal)\, this is very much a swinging set. Rich has some outstanding solos and lots of drum breaks but does not hog the spotlight; he was justifiably proud of his band..’”\n \n~Scott Yanow \n \nJoel Baer – Drums/Leader\n \nChris Parsons – Guitar/Leader\n \nTrumpet – Adam Roebuck\, Jon Rarick\, John Dorhauer\, Chuck Parrish\n \nSaxophone – Matt Zmuda\, Natalie Scharf\, Tom Zimny\, Mark Colby\, Tom Matta\n \nTrombone – Josh Torrey\, Ryan Christianson\, Conner Eisenmenger\, Nick Roach\n \nDan Parker – Bass\n \nBrad MacDonald – Piano\n \n \n7:30pm Doors\n \n8pm Show\n \nFREE PARKING

November 2nd at Hubbard Street Lofts\n\n\nStephen Parisi Quintet opens at 8pm\n \n \nThe evening will feature live painting from visual artist TBA\n \n \nMiró Henry Sobrer’s album\, Two of Swords\, recounts his struggle to find peace amidst conflicted feelings and thoughts after his father’s death in 2015. Following his father’s death\, Miró found himself alone in a world full of political\, environmental\, and spiritual division. The music of Two of Swords reflects that world and the process of coming to peace with it. This album invites the listener to reflect on those dualities in their own life and to find the peaceful center that lies between them. Vivid poetry\, and lush\, surreal soundscapes that traverse a variety of jazz\, classical\, latin\, and folkloric music join together to form this sound meditation. In order to take the listener on this journey\, the album musically interprets a tarot card\, based on the eponymous card from Miró’s father’s tarot book\, The Book of Oracles\, or a Poet’s Tarot.\n \n~ mirohenrymusic.com\n \n \n9:15pm MIRO HENRY SOBRER NONET\n \nMiró Henry Sobrer – Trombone/Compositions\n \nAngel Rodriguez – Trumpet\n \nWill Barnard – Soprano\n \nArman Sangalang – Tenor\n \nJimmy Farace – Bari\n \nJin Sook Kwak – Piano\n \nLyn Rye – Bass\n \nJustin Clark – Drums\n \nLaura Stephany Cohen – Percussion\n \nFrancesca Sobrer – Narration \n \n \n8:00pm STEPHEN PARISI QUINTET\n \nStephen Parisi – Bass/Compositions\n \nJimmy Farace – Alto\n \nRufus Parenti – Tenor\n \nTJ Thompson – Drums\n \nJosh Achiron – Guitar \n \n \n7:30 Doors\n \n8pm Show\n \nFREE PARKING

SUMMARY:MOON JAZZ at Prairie Moon in Evanston with STEVE KNIGHT TRIO
DESCRIPTION:STEVE KNIGHT TRIO at Prairie Moon in Evanston. Wednesday\, October 5 from 9-11PM. Presented by FSC. Plus\, RAW BAR • GRILL • DRINKS • JAZZ.\n\n\nJimmy Farace QuartetJULI WOOD TRIOSTEVE KNIGHT TRIO\nSteve traded his skateboard for a Synsonics/JCPenney guitar (with built-in\, 9 volt-powered speaker) in the early 90s\, much to the delight of his mother. At Emporia State University\, he split his time between the theatre department and the music department\, playing in pit orchestras\, the big band\, and the faculty combo\, all the while teaching guitar at ESU Academy and Flint Hills Music. \nSteve’s first step into the professional jazz world came in the living room of noted jazz pedagogue\, author\, and guitarist Dr. Wayne Goins at Kansas State University. Wayne’s unique approach as a professional first\, academic second\, inspired Steve to pursue the music further by moving to New York where he was lucky to study with luminaries in the field like Jack Wilkins\, Mark Whitfield\, Peter Bernstein\, Mark Sherman\, and Jim Ridl.  \nSteve moved to Chicago in the spring of 2016 and began teaching and playing full time\, further refining his craft with the help of local jazz heavies Scott Hesse\, Jim Trompeter\, Ernie Adams\, and Henry Johnson. His debut album\, Persistence\, releases August 12 everywhere. \nFulton Street Collective in Chicago and Prairie Moon restaurant\, 1635 Chicago Avenue in Evanston\, are proud to offer affordable\, top notch jazz every Wednesday night from 9PM – 11PM in downtown Evanston. Prairie Moon is a favorite restaurant in Evanston serving authentic regional American cuisine and is known as Evanston’s original craft beer bar. \nEvery Wednesday a different jazz group will play from 9PM-11PM. There is an affordable $7 cover\, which goes entirely to the musicians and to support Fulton Street Collective. \nFor full line-up\, please go to PrairieMoonRestaurant.com/live-jazz. \nAll questions regarding Prairie Moon can be directed to Prairie Moon at 847-864-8328. \n \nShare this entry

DESCRIPTION:Joe Clark & Chad McCullough present a live soundtrack to accompany the Benjamin Christansen’s 1922 classic HÄXAN on Thursday\, October 20th\n\n\n….celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the film’s release\, with a new score composed by Clark and McCullough featuring:\n \n \nJOE CLARK conducting\, composing\n \nCHAD McCULLOUGH trumpet\, composing\n \nJON IRABAGON saxophones\n \nDAVE MILLER guitar\n \nALVIN COBB JR drums \n \nWith support from Ryan Miller\, Chris Anderson\, Cafe Coda\, and generous in-kind support from The Silent Film Society of Chicago\, a federal 501c3 not-for-profit organization.\n \n \n“Häxan (Swedish: \, “The Witch”; Danish: Heksen; English: The Witches; released in the US in 1968 as Witchcraft Through the Ages) is a 1922 silent horror essay film written and directed by Benjamin Christensen. Consisting partly of documentary-style storytelling as well as dramatized narrative sequences\, the film charts the historical roots and superstitions surrounding witchcraft\, beginning in the Middle Ages through the 20th century. Based partly on Christensen’s own study of the Malleus Maleficarum\, a 15th-century German guide for inquisitors\, Häxan proposes that such witch hunts may have stemmed from misunderstandings of mental or neurological disorders\, triggering mass hysteria.”\n \n \n“Häxan is a Swedish film produced by AB Svensk Filmindustri\, but shot in Denmark in 1920–1921. With Christensen’s meticulous recreation of medieval scenes and its lengthy production period\, the film was the most expensive Scandinaviansilent film ever made\, costing nearly two million Swedish kronor. Although it received some positive reception in Denmark and Sweden\, censors in countries such as Germany\, France\, and the United States objected to what were considered at that time graphic depictions of torture\, nudity\, and sexual perversion\, as well as anti-clericalism.” \n \n7:30 Doors \n8pm Show \nLivestream = youtube.com/fultonstreetcollective

Certainly a player with great chops\, his approach is one that is measured and deliberate\, often introspective\, sometimes gorgeously melancholic\, and one that employs a continuity of mood and atmosphere …” \nHis latest album\, Forward was released in the Fall of 2020\, and was featured in several “Best Jazz Releases of the year” lists\, including the Chicago Tribune\, and All About Jazz. Featuring the stellar trio of Matt Ulery\, Rob Clearfield\, and Jon Deitemyer\, with post-production and programming by Ryan Cohan\, it is on the Outside In Music label.
