SUMMARY:Kenny Wheeler's ANGEL SONG Performed Livestream at Fulton Street Collective
DESCRIPTION:Jazz Record Art Collective presents Michael Hudson-Casanova Quintet performing Kenny Wheeler’s 1997 release ANGEL SONG Wed. May 11th @8pm\n\n\nThe evening will also feature live painting from visual artist Tamara Wasserman \n \n” Angel song is not just a good album or a good Kenny Wheeler album or even a great Kenny Wheeler album\, it is one of the greatest recordings in all of jazz. I know that’s a bold statement\, but with his collection of masterful musicians\, Frisell\, Holland and Konitz\, Wheeler creates an almost sacred atmosphere of subtlety and beauty. I don’t know how many times I’ve heard it but after about 20 years it still holds my interest\, with some passages so beautiful they defy comprehension. Kenny Wheeler has recorded some wonderful music\, but this tops them all. “ \n~ Robert Middleton \n \nMichael Hudson-Casanova – alto saxophone \nJames Davis – trumpet \nPaul Hecht – piano \nSam Peters – bass \nAndy Danstrom – drums \n \n8pm Livestream \nyoutube.com/fultonstreetcollective

SUMMARY:Pieces of a Song: Chris McCarthy & Clotilde Livestream @ FSC
DESCRIPTION:Fulton Street Collective is proud to be a part of Chicago Cabaret Week presenting Pieces of a Song – Chris McCarthy & Clotilde Livestream\n\n\nTuesday\, May 10th at 8pm \nThe evening will feature visual artist Alex Puryear. \nWith this duo\, the interdisciplinary French artist Clotilde and the acclaimed American pianist and keyboardist Chris McCarthy deepen their collaboration. Opening by Christy Bennett’s Fumée Duo of manouche-gypsy jazz. \nInspired by the Beat Generation poets Chris and Clotilde create a repertoire of rageous yet ecstatic original pieces in French and English\, infused with the writings of idiosyncratic Beat Generation poet Diane di Prima. With this repertoire\, they explore her identity crisis born out of poverty\, of rebellion\, of being a woman\, of standing on the outside of the culture\, of making bold choices in a more constraining world. “ FREE them / FREE yourself / Help to FREE me / FREE us / DANCE ” – Diane di Prima – Revolutionary Letter 49 \nPieces of a Song has been made possible through the Jazz & New Music\, a program of FACE Foundation\, in partnership with the Cultural Services of the French Embassy in the United States. Line up : Clotilde (vocal\, flute) // Chris McCarthy (piano\, prophet). \nClotilde offers a master class on Vocal Resonance as part of the Chicago Paris Cabaret Connexion international conference. Visit cabaretconnexion.org for May 9-13 daytime workshops.

SUMMARY:In Translation: A Synesthetic Art Show from Jess Brooks
DESCRIPTION:“In Translation”\, a debut opening from Chicago area native Jess Brooks\, features all Synesthetic works – Visual interpretations of music.\n\n\nFrom the Artist: \n“Synesthesia is a neurological crossover of the senses in the Parietal Lobe of the brain. Music had always produced visual sensations for me alongside the aural\, and upon learning what Synesthesia was\, my human experience and life assignment suddenly snapped into focus\, and finally made sense. \n \nIt is my hope and intention that this body of work broadens the perspective of the viewer as it invites them to reimagine the typical\, re-examine the way we process stimuli\, and experience the familiar through a new lens.”
