SUMMARY:"Work in Progress" Solo Art Opening with Emma Lyons
DESCRIPTION:Fulton Street Collective presents Emma Lyons and her second solo art show “Work In Progress” Sunday January 30th 2pm to 5pm\n\n\n30 days.\n \n4 huge blank walls.\n \n1 artist who’s going to fill them by closing night.\n \nEverything exhibited this month was made this month.\n \n \n \nIn this month-long solo art show\, every piece exhibited was started and completed within the timeframe of the show. It highlights the intersection of a concept of time that is growing ever more abstract in today’s reality\, an artist with a head full of ideas\, and her drive to fill four empty gallery walls.\n \n \nEmma’s whimsical styles aim to welcome\, encourage\, and provoke. Her playful abstract work invites the viewer to explore their own inhibited curiosity about the world around them.\n \n \nThis is the second of three weekends viewing the show’s progress and an early opportunity to purchase Emma’s newest original art. Each new Open Gallery event will reveal more and more newly-made art until the show’s culmination at its closing on Friday\, February 4th.

SUMMARY:Ellington's NUTCRACKER SUITE performed live @Fulton Street Collective 12/17
DESCRIPTION:FSC presents Michael Nearpass Large Ensemble performing Duke Ellington’s jazz interpretations of “The Nutcracker” by Tchaikovsky:\n\n\nTHE NUTCRACKER SUITE on Friday December 17th at 8pm \nAll tunes were arranged by Ellington and Billy Strayhorn. The evening will feature live painting from visual artist Leeis Achenbach. \n“In 1960\, Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn decide to take on Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker Suite released on Columbia records. Although there were risks of transforming the works of one the most prolific composers into a jazz setting\, Duke and Billy attacks the Russian Composers music and treats it as if it was their own. In order totruly fit the change of the music\, Duke and Billy decided to rename the titles of the songs. This record serves as a tribute to the Russian composer Tchaikovsky\, but also the artistry of both Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn.” \n~Lenard Simpson \nReeds: Lenard Simpson\, Artie Black\, Dustin Laurnezi\, Alex Blomarz \nTrumpets: Quentin Coaxum\, James Davis\, Drew Hansen \nTrombones: Matt Davis\, Josh Torrey\, Michael Nearpass \nPiano: tba \nBass: Katie Ernst \nDrums: Clif Wallace \n \n$15 = In-Person \nAll Ages \n7:30 Doors \n8pm Show \nFREE PARKING

SUMMARY:Chris Shuttleworth's MORTAR & Gold/Ernst/Black Trio @FultonStreetCollective
DESCRIPTION:Fulton Street Collective presents an IN-PERSON performance with Chris Shuttleworth’s MORTAR and Gold/Ernst/Black Trio Sunday December 12th\n\n\nThe evening will also feature live painting from visual artist Lewis Achenbach.\n \nMortar:\n \nChris Shuttleworth’s most recent compositional endeavor Mortar merges musicians from widely different musical backgrounds into an ensemble that fuses seemingly incongruous music traditions. Mortar subverts expectations of chamber brass playing by frequently utilizing a very reserved\, personal brass sound in conjunction with low strings and electric guitar. The result is a unique combination of composed and improvised elements that strives to be both deeply intriguing and entirely approachable\n \n \nChris Shuttleworth – Trombone\n \nJames Davis – Trumpet\n \nLeslie Beukelman – Voice\n \nMatt Gold – Guitar\n \nLia Kohl – Cello\n \nMatt Ulery – Bass \n \n \n8pm: Gold/Ernst/Black:\n \nFeaturing Chicago improvisers Artie Black on bass clarinet\, Matt Gold on guitar\, and Katie Ernst on bass and vocals\, Gold/Ernst/Black is a collaborative vehicle for the original compositions of its members. Think earthy medieval chamber music meets Jimmy Giuffre 3.\n \n \nMatt Gold – Guitar\n \nKatie Ernst – Bass and Voice\n \nArtie Black – Bass Clarinet \n \n$15 = In-Person\n \nAll Ages\n \n7:30 Doors\n \n8pm Show\n \nFREE PARKING

DESCRIPTION:Fulton Street Collective welcomes a performance with CHICAGO YESTET and In-Person art opening Big Orange Weirdo on Friday\, Dec. 3rd at 8pm\n\n\n7pm BIG ORANGE WEIRDO Art Opening featuring the works for Joel Adams \n8pm CHICAGO YESTET performs two sets. \nARTIST STATEMENT \nThe Big Orange Weirdo: \nI began drawing Donald Trump during his disastrous presidency simply as a means of coping with the corruption\, nepotism\, and insane levels of lying we all experienced on a daily basis for four grueling years. Although my friends wish I would move on\, I continue to use him as subject matter because\, unfortunately\, he now owns the republican party and remains relevant and a real threat to our democracy. Visually\, with his orange skin\, frog-like neck\, and wispy hair\, he’s intriguing to draw and there is obviously a comedic element to his ignorance and stupidity that are rich for exploration. \nNICK MAZZARELLA – altoCHRIS MADSEN -tenorGEOF BRADFIELD – tenorADAM ROEBUCK – trumpetRUSS JOHNSON – trumpetSTEVE DUNCAN – tromboneJOEL ADAMS – tromboneLLOYD BANDOW – immunologistMIKE ALLEMANA – guitarCHRIS MAHIEU – pianoCLARK SOMMERS – bassNEIL HEMPHILL – drumsKEITH HARRIS – spoken wordMAGGIE BURRELL – vocals \nThis show is in-person only and attendees must have proof of vaccine against Covid 19.

SUMMARY:Dave Meder Trio LIVE at Fulton Street Collective
DESCRIPTION:Fulton Street Collective presents a two-set\, In-Person performance with The Dave Meder Songs and Stories Trio Wednesday\, November 17th @8pm\n\n\nThe evening will also feature live painting from visual artist TBA.\n \n \nThe Dave Meder Songs and Stories Trio brings a fresh chamber music-like approach to the traditional jazz trio format: moving seamlessly from old gospel standards to bold deconstructions of avant-gardists like Thelonious Monk and Andrew Hill\, to intricate explorations inspired by American minimalists like Philip Glass and John Adams. They will also be celebrating the release of Meder’s sophomore album\, Unamuno Songs and Stories\, a stunning response to recent social upheavals in the United States. The trio is lauded for its remarkably “postmodern sense of stylistic adventure\,” incorporating what All About Jazz describes as “a vibrant hybrid of the whole American spectrum.”\n \n \nDave Meder – piano\n \nMarty Jaffe – bass\n \nJonathan Barber – drums\n \n \n$15 = In-Person\n \nAll Ages\n \n7:30 Doors\n \n8pm Show
