SUMMARY:Markus Rutz Quintet live at Fulton Street Collective
DESCRIPTION:Fulton Street Collective presents Markus Rutz Quintet for an In-Person & Livestream performance on Thursday September 9th at 8pm\n\n\nFulton Street Collective presents Markus Rutz Quintet for an In-Person & Livestream performance on Thursday September 9th at 8pm \nThe evening will also feature live painting from visual artist TBA \n \nFigure Two: New Designs” is the second volume from Chicago trumpeter and composer Markus Rutz’s Blueprints series. While 2019’s “Figure One: Frameworks” honored Markus’ mentors\, family and the musical greats who influenced his sound and career\, New Designs looks to the future with new discoveries in personal and musical growth. Navigating diverse ensemble and stylistic directions through 6 original compositions and jazz standards by McCoy Tyner\, Sam Rivers and Frank Foster\, Rutz conjures intrigue\, beauty and dynamism through his orchestrations which include sparkling ensemble passages and intimate duets. With saxophonist Brice Winston\, bassist Marcos Varela\, drummers Xavier Breaker and Marcus Evans\, Adrian Ruiz on piano\, guitarist Matt Gold and Heitor Garcia on percussion\, the volumes of Blueprints capture a compelling moment in an artist’s journey. “…a big\, dark tone and a fluid ease to his phrasing makes him seem relaxed even when unleashing a volley of 16th notes…”\n \n~Downbeat.\n \nMarkus Rutz – Trumpet\n \nJarrad Harris – Saxophone\n \nAdrian Ruiz – Piano\n \nSam Peters – Bass\n \nKyle Swan – Drums\n \n \n8pm CST Show

SUMMARY:ROY AYERS' 1967 release VIRGO VIBES performed live@Fulton Street Collective
DESCRIPTION:Jazz Record Art Collective continues September its residency with Thaddeus Tukes performing ROY AYERS’ 1967 release VIRGO VIBES at FSC.\n\n\nThe evening will also feature live painting from visual artist Lewis Achenbach. \n“Long before he switched to playing disco and pop music\, Roy Ayers was considered a promising young jazz vibraphonist. This LP\, his second as a leader\, was one of his finest. On four of the five selections…Ayers teams up with trumpeter Charles Tolliver\, tenor saxophonist Joe Henderson\, bassist Reggie Workman\, drummer Bruno Carr\, and the mysterious pianist Ronnie Clark…. On “Glow Flower\,” Ayers and Tolliver are joined by Harold Land on tenor\, pianist Jack Wilson\, bassist Buster Williams\, and drummer Donald Bailey. The music is primarily advanced hard bop with some freer moments on Tolliver’s “The Ringer.” This underrated music is long overdue to be reissued on CD and displays Roy Ayers’ long before he was known as an R&B artist.” \n~Scott Yanow \n \nThaddeus Tukes – Vibes \nBrent Griffin Jr. – Sax \nTBA – Trumpet \nElio Adriano – Piano \nMicah Collier – Bass \nFrank Morrison – Drums \n \n8pm Performance \n$15 In-Person \nLivestream = youtube.com/fultonstreetcollective \n \nFREE PARKING IN OUR LOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SUMMARY:Shirley Horn's MAY THE MUSIC NEVER END performed live @ Fulton Street Co
DESCRIPTION:Jazz Record Art Collective wraps our JRAC Anniversary Week w/ Alyssa Allgood performing SHIRLEY HORN’s 2003 release MAY THE MUSIC NEVER END\n\n\nThe Jazz Record Art Collective wraps up our JRAC Anniversary Week with Alyssa Allgood performing SHIRLEY HORN’s 2003 release\n MAY THE MUSIC NEVER END on Sunday\, September 5th at Fulton Street Collective. \nThe night will also feature live painting from visual artist Melanie Brown\n \n \nThe Allmusic review by Tim Sendra commented: “Horn’s trademark sound is the sparse\, languid torch song\, with atmospheric piano chords and her gentle and soulful vocals caressing the notes as she slowly lets them ease into the listener’s ear. ..If it is indeed her swan song\, then she went out the same way she came in: as a true classic”. At the time of the album’s recording\, Horn had stopped playing piano for health-related reasons\, and pianists George Mesterhazy and Ahmad Jamal were chosen to provide her accompaniment..\n \n~Wikipedia\n \n \nAlyssa Allgood – Vocals\n \nJulius Tucker – Piano\n \nEthan Philion – Bass\n \nJon Deitemyer – Drums\n \nMelanie Brown – Paints/Brushes/Canvas \n \nIn-Person = $15 \nLivestream = youtube.com/fultonstreetcollective

SUMMARY:DANA HALL performs  PAUL MOTIAN's MISTERIOSO @ Fulton Street Collective
DESCRIPTION:Jazz Record Art Collective continues our JRAC Anniversary Series w/ Dana Hall Quintet performing PAUL MOTIAN’s 1987 release  MISTERIOSO 9/4\n\n\nThe Jazz Record Art Collective continues our JRAC Anniversary Series with Dana Hall Quintet performing PAUL MOTIAN’s 1987 release  MISTERIOSO on Saturday\, September 4th at Fulton Street Collective. \nThe night will also feature live painting from visual artist Hillary Johnson. \n“Although often overlooked\, drummer Paul Motian led one of the most inventive jazz bands of the mid-1980s. His quintet\, which featured the tenors of Joe Lovano and Jim Pepper\, guitarist Bill Frisell and bassist Ed Schuller\, could play anything from swinging advanced hard bop and Ornette Coleman-type free bop to spacier improvising. An underrated composer\, Motian contributed seven of the nine numbers for this date; the quintet also performs Thelonious Monk’s “Misterioso” and “Pannonica.” Frisell is featured on “Byablue” the two tenors work together quite well\, and the band definitely had its own sound. Of its three recordings\, this is a strong one to start with. \n~Scott Yanow \n \nDana Hall – Drums \nGeof Bradfield – Tenor \nJohn Wojciechowski – Alto/Tenor \nDave Miller – Guitar \nEthan Philion – Bass \nHillary Johnson – Paints/Brushes/Canvas \n \nIn-Person = $15 \nLivestream = youtube.com/fultonstreetcollective

SUMMARY:Ryan Miller's FURTHER ESCALATION Art Opening @ Fulton Street Collective
DESCRIPTION:Fulton Street Collective presents Ryan Miller’s Art Opening FURTHER ESCALATION on Friday\, September 3rd\, from 7 to 10pm\n\n\nFulton Street Collective presents Ryan Miller’s Art Opening FURTHER ESCALATION on Friday\, September 3rd\, from 7 to 10pm \n \nRyan Miller’s new show builds on the momentum of last year’s “Sudden Escalation”. With his humble artistic beginnings as a Bob Ross enthusiast left in the dust\, his new paintings are a moving target of styles\, influences\, and mediums. His work is mostly improvised while painting to music\, a clear connection to his life as a professional musician. His influences stretch from Kline\, Kusama\, and Pollack\, to Braque\, Dali and yes\, Bob Ross. Keep your head on a swivel for this one. Its time to take it up a notch. It’s time for a “Further Escalation”! \n \n7pm to 10pm \nFree Parking in Our Lot \nBuy Local Art

SUMMARY:Gavin Gillan's Water Life\, an exploration of water in Chicago
DESCRIPTION:Water is life. Photographer Gavin Gillan explores the relationship of water to form in a series of Chicago-based photos.\n\n\nChicago photographer Gavin Gillan has spent his adult life on a pilgrimage through his hometown’s streets\, alleys\, and shoreline. The city reveals itself to him and he captures what it tells him with his camera. Gavin’s work is at the crossroads of cityscape and abstraction. He is interested in minimalism\, distortion and reflection. \nThis installation is about water\, because water is life. We are made of water. Much of the world has experienced droughts that have killed and reshaped our environments and communities. The fluidity of water reminds us that nothing lasts forever. \nShowing starts at 7PM. \nDJ music by CHIRP Radio‘s DJ Stevo.
