The evening will feature live painting from visual artist Ben Llewellyn .
Undertow is a two-piece instrumental, jazz group with a DIY punk aesthetic. Undertow formed in 2004 in Chicago and consists of Josh Beatty on tenor, alto, and soprano saxophones, and alto clarinet; and Michael Baker on electric bass.
Ben Roidl-Ward (bassoon) and Ben Llewellyn (visuals) are long-time collaborators interested in finding connections and dialogue between their art forms. Their most recent collaboration, Moonhead, is an audio/visual album featuring solo bassoon works and oil paintings that explore themes of repetition, saturation, and perspective. The two mediums inform and respond to each other, always seeking to develop sonic or visual information into complex, ever-transforming textures.
