Jazz Record Art Collective presents Raíces performing Cal Tjader’s 1964 release SOUL SAUCE Wednesday March 26th at Fulton Street Collective

The evening will feature live painting from visual artist TBA.

Raíces (Roots) pays homage to the originators of Latin Jazz and performs original music in the same style. The release of their debut, self-titled album was well-received and earned the quintet a featured spot at the 2023 Chicago Latin Jazz Festival. Raíces was modeled on the famous Cal Tjader Quintet of the 1950’s & 60’s by the late Chicago percussionist Rubén Alvarez and is now led by vibraphonist Joe Sonnefeldt.

Soul Sauce is one of the highlights from Tjader’s catalog with its appealing mixture of mambo, samba, bolero, and boogaloo styles… an album full of smart arrangements, subtly provocative vibe solos, and intricate percussion backing.”
