Chicago area native Ryan Miller was a full-time musician before becoming a full-time artist. His paintings are best described as abstract surrealism, employing the gestural techniques of Abstract Expressionism as well as many concepts from Surrealism and Dada art, such as free association and automatism, and grattage.Ryan is also a woodworker, and builds hardwood frames for his own artwork and that of many local artists. He has recently combined his painting and framing practices by creating paintings for found vintage frames, several of which will be featured in this show.To ensure the organic growth of West Town as Chicago’s emergent gallery district and further unite the neighborhood as a cultural destination, please join us in our gallery Sept. 19th.West Town Chamber of Commerce supports and elevates similar efforts while further facilitating connection among Chicago’s gallerists, artists, collectors and patrons. With enthusiastic participation from area galleries,Ryan Miller’s art opening offers the potential to ensure the continued development of the West Town neighborhood as a nexus of fine art and arts development in Chicago and beyond.
