Jude Lo
Biographical Info Jude Lo, a photo-based artist born in Rochester, NY. She received her B.A. in Fine Arts-Photography from North Park University in 2015. An autobiographical documentary photographer, Jude is inspired by the likes of raw spontaneous imagery, mixed with relationship based subject matter. Her work examines the individual and the interplay between identity and anonymity. Through personal and social histories, she is addressing various aesthetics and themes of community, romance, abuse, materialism, and black culture. Her practice as of late borrows from visual traditions beyond photographic and figurative portraiture, combining Surrealism and Abstract expressionism with her photography. Hypervisual elements are a key motif that play on different aspects of human connection, mental health, and modern-day romance. Jude’s most recent solo exhibition in Spring 2019, “Landscapes Of The Strong”, showed a variety of digital prints, collage, and poetry— traversing relationships, living through landscapes, the worlds we nourish, the love we fertilize. The work explored the relationship between landscapes of love and identity as an opportunity to reflect upon our own personal growth via confronting the canvas- the love lives we have cultivated.
