The evening will feature live painting from visual artist Julie Vogt.
ALBUM BACKGROUND:
An annual tradition that started 7 years ago as a gift to the band, bassist Andrew Vogt arranged a batch of Christmas songs for the group to play, fitted snugly on top of existing Bonzo Squad music. This February, they took that music into Rax Trax Studios and recorded it for future holidays, when they are all too fat and lazy to fit into their elf costumes. The result was “A Very Bonzo Christmas,” an 8-track album chock-full of holiday smaesh. The album also guest features fantastic Chicagoan musicians including Zach Brock, Atlys String Quartet, Matt Gold, Constantine Alexander and Anders Nordstrom.
The show will conclude with another annual tradition of the band performing a live scoring to the classic short film “TBA.” Much like the CSO performing Star Wars or Harry Potter film music, Vogt was able to use computer wizardry to separate the audio from the film and – to make things harder – also transcribed the entire score.
Join us for a festive celebration sure to be full of great music, friends, family and holiday Malort.
“In ‘A Very Bonzo Christmas,’ Bonzo Squad has crafted more than just an album; they’ve created a holiday experience. It’s a journey through the snowy landscapes of jazz, a celebration of the season’s magic, and a reminder that good music has the power to transcend time and tradition. As you immerse yourself in the delightful sounds of Bonzo Squad’s festive arrangements, you’ll find yourself embracing the holiday spirit with newfound enthusiasm. This album is a jazz-infused Christmas gem that deserves a permanent spot in your holiday music collection. Get ready to swing into the season with “A Very Bonzo Christmas” – it’s a musical gift that keeps on giving.”
